EBSCO's Home Improvement Reference Center Adds Videos, New Browsing Options

Home Improvement Reference Center now includes video content, as well as a convenient A-Z browsing option. Here are some important details about these new enhancements:

Video Content:

  • 100 videos are now included in the Home Improvement Reference Center.
  • The videos provide step-by-step instructions on the most common home repair projects. The page range in the citation indicates the number of steps provided in the video (e.g., p1-11, 11p indicates that there are eleven steps in the video).
  • Easy access to videos is provided via URLs in the citations.
  • The Result List now includes a Videos tab.
  • HIRC videos are hosted by Easy2. This means that certain videos will require the researcher to "accept" terms of use. Selecting the acceptance will take the researcher to a new window with the video.

A-Z Browse Option Convenience:

  • Convenient A-Z browsing navigation is now part of the Home Improvement Reference Center interface, the platform which presents the HIRC database to your users.
  • Searching for appropriate articles for a project is made easier via A-Z navigation.
  • Synonyms have been included to provide maximum results to your users.

Teen Health and Wellness: Real Life, Real Answers Online Database Selected by Leading Urban School Districts

Chicago, Denver, Oakland, and Milwaukee Recognize Teen Health and Wellness as a Critical Tool for Students, Teachers, and Health Services Staff

NEW YORK CITY, NY – August 4, 2008 – Rosen Publishing is pleased to announce the selection of Teen Health & Wellness: Real Life, Real Answers by several urban school districts for integration into health, fitness, and family life curricula and as a reference and support resource for their middle and high school students. Chicago Public Schools (IL), Denver Public Schools (CO), Oakland Unified School District (CA), and Milwaukee Public Schools (WI) join a growing list of over 2,000 public and private schools and public libraries across the country that recognize Teen Health & Wellness as an important self-help and homework help tool for their communities.

“When Chicago Public Schools was introduced to the Teen Health & Wellness database from Rosen, we were impressed with the quality and variety of the information, the look of the Web site, and the ease of navigation,” states Paul Whitsitt, director of libraries and information services at Chicago Public Schools. “Our health education experts enthusiastically approved the content, and we saw that it would meet student needs for both school assignments and personal exploration.” Over 100,000 Chicago secondary students will have access to Teen Health & Wellness when the 2008-2009 school year begins.

Ann Mayo Gallagher, district librarian, reports that after weeks of input from site librarians using a trial subscription, Oakland Unified School District decided to subscribe to Teen Health & Wellness for its 37 middle schools and high schools. “It is a great product that will be used to fill a niche in the information market that teens need and want,” states Gallagher. “The price is affordable, the interface is inviting, the teacher resources are well done, and the possibilities are all there to support quality information searching. It will be great having this resource for our students.”

Since Teen Health & Wellness launched in 2007, Rosen Publishing continues to add features to the award-winning database, most recently including customizable Hotlines, RSS feed capability, and expanded reading lists. Teen Health & Wellness has received critical acclaim and won numerous awards, including being voted a 2007 Top 10 Digital Resource by School Library Journal and a "Must Have" Product for Fall 2008, being selected as one of Library Journal’s Best Reference Sources of 2007, and being named Best New Product, 2007 Readers’ Choice Awards by The Charleston Advisor. The database has also been honored with an EDDIE (Annual Education Software Review) Award, an Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) Distinguished Achievement Award, a World Wide Web Health Award, and a Best Educational Software (BESSIE) Award.
